It’s That Time Again

So it’s that time again.  We have been talking about it for hours upon hours, days upon days, weeks upon weeks, and months upon months.  After all of this talk, it’s finally time for them to go out and prove it.  It’s time to prove the naysayers wrong and give their supporters a reason to continue standing by the side in the tough months ahead.  The field may be crowded with wannabes but the true contenders will stand out and in the end, only one will be left standing.  It’s showtime…

Did you think I was talking about the upcoming presidential debates?  There will be a time and place for that soon, very soon.  However, this Sunday is the unofficial start of football season with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio.  As a Steelers fan, I’m glad that Jerome Bettis is finally being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Even better is that the Steelers play the following night.

Yes, I know it’s not real football. The starters will play maybe one series before we have to suffer through watching the third and fourth string players who won’t even be around in three to four weeks.  However, this is the first sign of the season starting to change.  The long, grueling summer is almost over and some sense of normalcy and sanity will return.  Even though the Pirates don’t stink anymore and are well on their way to a third straight postseason, there’s nothing like watching twenty-two grown men trying to run each other over.  Every weekend, you’ll find me yelling, cheering, and screaming at the TV, the mood changing with every play.  At the end of the game, someone walks away with the thrill of victory, the other the agony of defeat, carrying not only their franchises, but the cities and fans that the players represent.

It’s football season everybody.  Enjoy.
